Innisfil Winterhawks "Renee Marrelli Century 21" U13 Select are the Champions of the Pickering Spring Thaw Tournament
This past weekend April 1-3 The U13 Innisfil Select team participated in the Pickering Spring Thaw Tournament . This is their 3rd of 4 tournaments this season and second championship win.
The team started off their Round Robin play with a 1-1 tie against Woolwich. Next up was a very strong Whitby Wildcats Team . Both teams were very evenly matched and remained off the board for the first period . Innisfil finally got one by their goalie at 8:12 of the second period and then netted their 2nd goal shortly after that . The Hawks kept up the pressure at both ends shutting down the Wildcats late into the 3rd period .With 1 min left in the game and a goalie pulled they were able to score with 13 seconds left. It wasn't enough to overtake Innisfil and they were Victorious 2-1. With a 4 way tie for first place after 2 games, Innisfil needed to win their next 2 games for a chance at finishing 1rst in the round robin to get the bye to the championships. The team knew what their goal was going into both games and worked hard as a team against Quinte West and Northumberland winning both games to advance directly to the Championship game against Whitby Wildcats on Sunday afternoon . Whitby was out for redemption after losing to Innisfil in RR . The Innisfil team needed to pull all their skill and teamwork together right off the whistle if they wanted to win. The Winterhawks did not disappoint; they came out strong and remained that way throughout the game dominating both ends of the ice to come away Champions of the tournament with a 3-2 win .Coaches and parents can not be more proud of the way the team played and represented Innisfil Minor Hockey. Their successes so far this year is a testament to the coaching staff ,Players and the Select Development program offered by IMHA . Next week the team will participate in the last Select tournament of the season in Stouffville Good luck HAWKS!!!
