President's Message
Hello IMHA Family,
I would like welcome everyone back to another exciting hockey season with the IMHA. At the 2022 IMHA AGM I was honoured to be elected as the President of the Innisfil Minor Hockey Association for the upcoming 2022-2023 hockey season. I would like to thank our previous president Sean Knight for all his hard work, and wish him well in his future endeavors.
I would also like to thank former board members Rick Earhart, Wendy Nelson, Sarah Dickson and Cameron Gates for all their hard work and dedication this past season. I would like to welcome all our new members as well as thank our existing members for all they do to help the Innisfil Winterhawks continue to produce happy players and successful seasons. We have all weathered the storm that was the Covid-19 pandemic and we are very happy to be moving into the next season with high hopes and an eye on the future. The IMHA saw plenty of growth and successes in the representative teams in the 2021-2022 season. The U9A team finished the season in 2nd place, U15A and U16A teams both finished the season in 3rd place, and U18A finished the season in 4th place. Both U15A and U18A qualified to compete in the OMHA championship weekend for their respective divisions. U14A were YSMHL championship finalists, and U16A were YSMHL champions. The IMHA is one of the most competitive Local League centre’s in the SRLL. This past season saw many successes for all our local league teams. This includes our U11 LL team who finished the season 1st and 2nd, two of our U13 LL teams finished the season 1st and 2nd, and one of our U15 LL teams finishing 3rd in the regular season.
Innisfil Winterhawks U11 team 2 beat Innisfil Winterhawks U11 team 1 in the U11 SRLL championships, and Innisfil Winterhawks U13 team 2 won their championship by defeating Innisfil Winterhawks U13 team 3 in a nail bitter of a U13 SRLL playoff championship.
A large focus of the AGM was a question about the future of the IMHA. The IMHA believes in full transparency and we have been very open about entering talks with Bradford Minor Hockey Association about combining our representative hockey teams into a new singular centre that would provide AA, A, and BB/MD hockey for residents in both communities. This is something that the membership of both organizations have been asking for and this is how we can provide it.
We are just entering talks with Bradford Minor Hockey with the help of the OMHA and will have more information for all members in the near future. Things to remember are that this will not impact our IMHA Local League program and the final say is given to the members, it is only through your vote that anything can move forward.
This season represents a return to traditional hockey for our membership, and a return to normalcy for our players. Hockey is important to the physical and mental well being of the kids in our community and we will continue to strive to provide the best program that we can.
Go Hawks
