Upcoming season and registration update
Submitted By Innisfil Minor Hockey on Saturday, August 22, 2020
Dear IMHA members;

Thank you for your continued patience during this unprecedented time. As you can imagine, planning for the upcoming season has been unique to say the least.  We have been working diligently through the summer in collaboration with the OHF; OMHA; York Simcoe Minor Hockey Association; SRLL; our local health unit and the town of Innisfil to get our kids safely back to hockey. We have submitted our return to play protocol for our organization for OMHA approval, a plan that is in line with other centers in our loop.

Below is a condensed version of our plan for your review with key information on registration.  Registration will be closing September 15th,  information on our season is below.

Key information on the upcoming 25thAnniversary season of the IMHA

IMHA will be running a 2 phased approach for the coming season.

  1. Phase 1: end September until the end of December 2020. (Local health unit and OHF may alter, extend timelines).
  2. Phase 2: To be confirmed with the OHF and OMHA, slated to start January 1st, 2021. Timing and cost is still to be confirmed.

IMHA Phase 1

  • is a 4on4 program starting end of September until the end of December. IP and below will begin in early October.
  • Total cost for each player is $550.This includes: practice jersey to keep; 15 weeks of ice: 1 hour practice and 1 hour game play per week; refs for game play; insurance; pictures; equipment; league overhead; etc.
  • There will be no on-ice or off-ice tryouts for phase 1
  • There will be no travel
  • Phase 1 will start with a 2 week development phase. After the completion of development hockey, it will transition to a 4on4 game play.

IMHA Phase 1 hockey will consist of two tiers: competitive and recreational.

  • IMHA, in collaboration with the OMHA, will be putting together in each tier:
    • 40 player cohorts by division (Novice through Midget) to create individual bubbles within each tiered system.
    • All game play will be within individual cohorts
    • Maximum of 30 participants will be on the ice (including instructors) at a time
  • Tier 1 will be IMHA’s competitive tier.
    • This tier will be broken into  cohorts with a maximum of 40 players in each cohort.
    • Example: Cohort A: Under-10 (Formally Minor ATOM) 18 Skaters and 2 Goalies + Under-11 (Formally ATOM) 18 Skaters and 2 Goalies.
    • Players in each cohort will be split into 4 teams of 9 skaters and 1 goalie at the discretion of the coaches
      • Teams may change from week to week and may include players from a single age group or from both age groups combined
      • There will be 1 hour of practice and 1 hour of game play per each team
      • Players in this tier will include players who were on an IMHA rep roster in the 2019-2020 season and may also include players who played rep elsewhere last season and have chosen to return to IMHA for this season
      • It may also include players who were previously enrolled in IMHA Local league in the 2019-2020 season that coaches feel are qualified to compete at this level, or rep players who have recently moved into the area
  • Tier 2 will be IMHA’s recreational tier.
    • This tier will be broken into  cohorts, with 40 players + coaches in each cohort
    • Example: Cohort B will comprise of teams each comprised of 9 Players and 1 Goalie, totaling 40 players.
    • Players in this tier will include players who played Local League with the IMHA in the 2019-2020 season, new additions to the organization and players who previously played rep who feel they are more suited to the recreational tier
    • There will be 1 hour of practice and 1 hour of game play per each team
    • All teams will play a 4on4 format unless one of the teams is short players, teams will then shift to a 3on3 format
    • IP and IPLL will be combined this year into a separate group cohort of maximum 40players

IMHA Phase 2: Still TBD

  • IMHA Phase 2 will commence in January when the IMHA has received further clarification from the OHF and the OMHA
  • We anticipate that if things stay the same for HL/LL thru March we will have an additional  payment date in November with a final amount of $300 for the remaining Jan-March season
  • If York Simcoe gives the go ahead for rep tryouts in December for a January start, the board will be looking at costs associated with the shorten season and determine additional rep team fees at that time

We did not anticipate our 25th anniversary would be one for the record books, but we do hope you will join us to celebrate it as best we can.

Now let's get back to some hockey!

Thank you again,

IMHA board of directors
