“Hawks” In House Goalie Development Sessions

“Hawks” In House Goalie Development Sessions

Attn: Parents, Coaches and Goalies

Please allow me to introduce myself to you.  My name is Tim Barker and I am the Innisfil Minor Hockey Association Goalie Development Coach.  We are excited to announce that the Hawks will be providing on-ice Goaltending Development Clinic to start 1st week of October and run continuously through to 1st week of March.

My Playing Background

A little information about myself.  I’ve been playing competitive hockey as a goaltender for the past 44 years and teaching goaltending skills for the past 20 years.  Like most goaltenders I began playing in house league and worked my way up through the OMHA rep system which culminated with my free agent signing in 1987 with the NY Rangers of the NHL

My Teaching Background and Hockey Canada Certifications

Upon my retirement from professional hockey I worked with the GTHL, Toronto based Goalie Schools and Mississauga based Goalie Schools with my primary focus on developing and leading goaltending clinics that were aimed at goaltenders ranging from age Novice to OHL.

I am currently the Head Goaltending Coach for the following organizations:

   TMHA
Alliston Hornets (PJHL)

I also work with several local AAA, AA, A organizations and OHL teams with respect to goaltending instruction and evaluating.

Skills Focus:

-       Footwork (ability to move in and around crease effectively using “C” cuts, shuffles, “T” pushes and pad slides)

-       Balance/Recover (ability to make save and recover)

-       Rebound Control (stick/pad/blocker saves)

-       Catcher Proficiency

-       Angle Play

-       Shot Recognition (Ability for Goaltender to understand when he should stand up or go down for a save)

-       Overall save techniques (including poke check)

-       Effectively playing the puck with their sticks (including stickhandling and passing)

See you on the ice!

Yours Truly,

Tim Barker

Goalie Coach
